The mixed hunting that takes place in Scotland is carried out on several species of both sedentary and migratory game. These include pheasant, partridge, hare, duck and woodcock.

It is a group hunt in which the hunters operate surrounding thickets, mixed cover areas and small rivers and the companions with their beaters dogs scare off the game present.

This hunt lends itself to being combined with other more particular hunts such as geese, ducks, woodcock or wood pigeon.
